Many logos incorporate animals, but Kelpies’ logo also has a historic significance behind it. While Scotland, Wales and Ireland are most commonly associated with the Celtic people, the roots of that unique culture are spread throughout Europe.
The Gallaeci were a tribe of Celts that settled in northwest Spain. The Celts and the indigenous Iberians influenced each other and created a unique Celtiberian culture; the ‘Gallegos’.

The Kelpie is a supernatural being from Celtic Folklore. It is believed to haunt rivers and lakes and sleep in solitary ponds or in the sea. The kelpie can take the form of a beautiful horse (sometimes white but usually black) and is best identified by its dripping mane. The skin of the Kelpie is said to be like a seal, smooth, but as cold as death when touched. According to mythology, this creature has supernatural shapeshifting powers.
Did you know that horse feed can physically transform horses internally and externally through innovative nutritional technology too?
The Founder

A Galician native, Moncho worked for more than thirty years in the animal feed industry, most recently he has focused on special products (especially bees, livestock, and horses), and on the organic cereal markets. He has spent 11 years as the president of the Galician Association of Composite Food Manufacturers (AGAFAC).
Kelpies is not Monchos ‘first rodeo’, but rather it is the culmination of many years’ experience in the animal feed industry which led him to spot a gap in the market for an innovative and modern horse feed brand.
The animal feed industry is famously conservative, and Moncho was intent on shaking things up by combining science with sustainability. Moncho sought to offer a premium product that uses only the best raw grains, leading to less waste and better results.
Utilizing his knowledge and enthusiasm for ecological farming, horse nutrition and raw grains – Kelpies Galician Horse Feed was launched.
Why Galicia
The annual rainfall in Galicia is comparable to that of Ireland or the United Kingdom, which is why the region is known as “the land of the 1000 rivers”.

Galicia is a green and lush region ‘donde la lluvia es arte’ (where rain is an art). This is a region well known for animal feed production and fishing – in fact, Galicia is the second largest crop producing region in Spain.
For Moncho, there was nowhere in Spain better suited to manufacture his new brand. Kelpies participates in the gmp.galis safe foods program.
GMP stands for “Good Manufacturing Practices” and companies in this program actively contribute to producing certified animal feed with ingredients that meet strict legal rules and requirements laid out by the European Union.
What makes Kelpies special?
Kelpies is the result of years of intense research and development, testing and selection of the highest quality Spanish produced ingredients.
Understanding feed quality by reading an ingredient list is not easy. Many high-quality horse feeds contain a component of lower quality ingredients such as bran or pollard to bulk them up. Kelpies horse feed is innovative since it uses premium quality (raw) ingredients, so that you can feed less and still see better results.
Every horse, whether in work or at rest, needs a well-balanced diet, but performance horses under a lot of physical pressure also need to build muscle mass. These horses will almost always perform better when fed a quality feed with high levels of protein. If their feed contains poor quality protein, muscle development and coat quality will suffer.

Thanks to state-of-the-art nutritional technology from Alltech and strict manufacturing and quality control processes, it is easy for consumers of Kelpies Galician Horse Feed to personalize the organic minerals and vitamins for each horse’s feeding routine.
Kelpies has a dedicated team of nutritionists, veterinarians, and horse experts on-hand to advise and customize each client on the right feed order. Whether your horses are lean, mean racing machines, or relaxed broodmares living outside; Kelpies simplifies and revolutionizes the feeding process.
Choose from 14 base products composed of high-quality ingredients in fully balanced formulas – or contact one of our representatives to personalize your feed based on your horses’ requirements.
